Hey Corpse,

I can see how this would be very useful. At my old provider I was getting 10 bot account requests sent to me every day for approval... Anyway I installed it and it does appear to work well. But I have an idea for a tweak that you might be able to put on your list of many things to consider.

I'd like to setup my site so that potential new users would have to first answer the BBAntispam question succesfully before they would be allowed to register a new account. Then an email would be sent to the admin for final approval before the account is created. So I still want to maintain the normal email - admin approval for accounts but want the bot protection with BBAntispam.

Anyway I know you are busy and have a lot on your plate with your own site upgrades. But if you get bored that would be a nice tweak.

-Taste

Well, the way it is set up now, they register, then they answer the question, then it confirms then sends the email.

That would work for me. Although when I tried it, after answering the bbantispam question successfully it just automatically setup the account without an email admin approval. Maybe I just need to dive a little deeper into the admin options.

You have to set that up in I believe the "Your_Account" in the ACP.

Yeah I did find those options and have them set, but when I setup the bbantispam hack - it bypasses the email verification and just sets up the account for some reason even with these variables set.

The bbantispam does not make you skip anything, all it does is interrupt before the next step is taken. The settings I would go with if your doing the email activation is:

Allow User Registration:  Yes

Require Admin Approval:  No

Allow User self-deactivation:  No

Double check email at registration:   Yes

COPPA Compliance Required:  No

Show Terms of Service [TOS]:  No

Show TOS to members as well:  No

Email Options
Server can send mail? Yes

Notify Admin of User Registration:

Notify Admin of User Deactivation:

Use Email Activation?

Allow User Email Change: Yes

Validate Email Changes

Well, I don't know what to say, if its not working on your website, then there is an issue with your site because the bbspam does not actually control anything on the site, it just puts a pause on your site. I just tried registering on your site to test it and you don't even have the email registration or that bb-antispam on so i can see it along with not having the captcha on registration, that is something you should look at turning on...

If you can, set up the bbantispam how I say in the instructions, then also turn it on so the email sends out the activation and not the admin approving of every account, and I do recommend turning on the captcha on registration, decline my account registration and I want to see if its working, If it does not go through the cycle correctly, then your settings are wrong or something up with the site because it would have nothing to do with the bbantispam, thats a totally separate thing.

Also, just a heads up, there has been a issue with the user email registration which is well discussed on the Xtreme site. Overall, the issue I found came down to human error, meaning that they are idiots and don't know how to complete registrations, that is why we don't use the email activation here anymore.

Sorry Corpse - Thanks for trying. I missed your post. I had my nephew over this weekend and he ate up all my time... I just deny your account request.

Anyway I had disabled the BBAntiSpam after I noticed it was creating accounts without needing admin approval. But let me go back and re-install and try again. I must have missed something. I'll pay special attentiong to the ACP email option settings.

Also I know what you mean about the email registration issue. People don't realize they need to look for an activation link...

Hey Corpse -  I re-installed the new_confirmX.php files,  and after I cleared cookies on my browser and double checked the ACP user account settings everything is working fine. My bad. Sorry to take you down a rathole over nothing.

Hope your website upgrade went well. Looks good.

Tasted, I don't know why this came to me, but I remember this post just a few min ago and I wanted to let you know that if you wanted that bit of extra security. I developed the Honeypot that as of now, has been 100% successful in stopping bots from registering on peoples sites. Its very easy to install. I would take a look into it.
